An Overview of the Zimmer Kinectiv Hip Recall

Approved by the FDA in 2007, the Zimmer M/L Taper Hip Prosthesis with Kinectiv Technology is a hip replacement system. Manufactured by Zimmer Inc., the device is comprised of modular stem and neck components designed to alleviate the leg length, joint stability and range of motion challenges that tend to develop during hip replacement surgery. The technology gives the surgeon a wide range of sizes to choose from, so he or she can match the device to the patient’s unique body. However, in 2015 Zimmer issued a recall of this system.

It was classified as a Class I recall by the FDA, which is the most serious kind of recall and is only used in situations where there is a reasonable probability that using the device will cause serious health consequences or death. The recall was issued because manufacturing residue was found to be left on the distributed product, which can cause serious problems including:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Infections
  • Death

What damages can you recover from a lawsuit against Zimmer?

If you or a loved one has experienced injuries or serious complications after receiving a Zimmer Kinectiv hip implant, you may be able to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer. If you win, you may be entitled to recover damages for the following:

  • Medical bills. These damages will cover all of your past, current and future medical expenses – including hospital care, medical devices, doctor’s appointments and more.
  • Lost wages. If your injuries prevent you from working normally, you may be entitled to compensation for wages you would have earned during that time.
  • Pain and suffering. Along with an injury comes substantial physical challenges that need to be dealt with. Your pain and suffering damages will cover these issues, and are determined based on the extent of your injuries.
